Charleville
We stayed at the Charleville Bush Caravan Park, which made a great base for exploring this historic outback town. It had a peaceful, bushy setting and was just a short drive to all the main attractions.
Things to do in Charleville
The Cosmos Centre – A must-visit! We went to one of their night shows and were blown away by the chance to view stars and planets through powerful telescopes. The guides made it fun and easy to understand — a real highlight of our stay.
WWII Secret Base – Step back in time and learn about Charleville’s secret role during World War II, when American troops were stationed here. The guided tour gives a great insight into what life was like at the base and its importance in the war effort.
Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Centre – This interactive experience shares the amazing history and continued work of the RFDS. It gave us a whole new appreciation for the service and how vital it is for remote communities across Australia.
Charleville Bilby Experience (seasonal) – If you're there at the right time, don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the endangered bilby and the work being done to protect them.
Charleville was a great mix of outback history, science, and nature — well worth the stop on any western QLD adventure.
